The Art of People – A Fresh Perspective
Who would have guessed that a random book I found while waiting in line at the bookstore would have such a profound effect on my life… definitely not me!
I was waiting in a 30-40 people long queue to collect a preordered book. While waiting, I noticed a book on the nearby shelf: the ART of PEOPLE. I started flipping through the pages and found myself making mental notes “remember this” and “remember that”. It seemed that the book was overflowing with golden nuggets of information. Upon deciding that I couldn’t possibly remember that whole book, I ended up buying it. Once I began to read it properly, I couldn’t stop. I was underlining important ideas, avidly taking notes, and stopping to contemplate Dave Kerpen’s thinking.

New Perspective
Most of the things discussed by Kerpen are rooted in common sense, basic ideas we have all been previously introduced to. The power of his book lies not in the intensity or difficulty of his ideas, but rather in the new perspective he brings to each.
For example, connecting to people on LinkedIn. We all know what information we have access to, but we don’t always use it to its full potential. Once he explained it in the book I started seeing the platform in a different way. Dave Kerpen, thank you for the lesson – it really made a difference in my usage of LinkedIn for connecting with others.
The book is written in a very approachable and easy-to-read way. Kerpen shares a lot of details about his life that make you feel as if you knew him even though we never met.
He came from a modest background. He worked smart and he worked hard. He achieved his goals using the skills he listed in the book. He is the true testimony that the skills are practical and also possible to learn.
The Book
The book contains eleven chapters, one for each of the skills. Each chapter includes a number of sub-chapters on the discussed skill and concludes with tips on how to implement each.
The book is a good read for anyone who wants to improve on their people’s skills, whether you’re a CEO of a big company, a student, or a member of the community. The eleven skills are practical, logical, and very helpful in any relationship whether business or personal.
