Life Transition Coaching! Is It For Me?
Coaching is not a new profession; however, its popularity has grown exponentially in past years, making it more accessible to individuals worldwide. The term “coach” was originally used in the 1830s by students at the University of Oxford as slang for a tutor; as tutors undertake the process of transporting a person from where they are to where they want to be.
As the usage of โcoachโ increased, individuals began to use it in other settings, such as sports coaching. The modern version of coaching emerged in the 1980s. It started with Thomas Leonard, a former financial planner. He was a major contributor to the development and popularization of personal coaching.
Modern Day Coaching
In the early 2000s, Hollywood scriptwriters started using the profession in their movie scripts, which further popularized it.
Despite how prominent coaches are in our films, books, and tv shows, there still remains a level of confusion about what coaches exactly do.
Coaching is often inaccurately associated with tutoring, mentoring, training, therapy, counseling, leading, and managing. While some of the aspects of these professions can be used, coaching is not focused on transferring knowledge to the client.
The focus is on the client and their personal development through self-examination and positive transformation.
International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity, and leadership.

What Is Coaching
Are you feeling confused? So was I when I first heard about the profession. Let me try to draw you a picture.
Imagine you are going on a journey. You go through different situations forming unique relationships. Through every interaction, you have to adjust and learn new skills to continue moving forward. At some points in your journey, you come to places where you may need help to find a hidden treasure or the best way of passage.
From the start, you are equipped with a big, complicated, and incomplete map, an image of what the hidden treasure looks like, and a compass.
The journey is your life. The map is your vision of what you want your life to be and the treasure is your goal. The compass is your coach.
The coach helps you with navigation. The coach keeps track of your progress and helps you stay on track, making sure you get to your destination, the treasure.
You are the expert in your life! The coach helps you uncover your expertise to use it to achieve your goals and lead a more purposeful and satisfactory life.

There are many branches of coaching – life coaching, leadership coaching, executive coaching, team coaching, financial coaching, relationship coaching, life transition coaching, etc.
While I enjoy working in many branches of coaching, my deep passion lies in life transition coaching.
I have gone through many transitions in my life, both caused by choice and some forced on me. From a deeply personal experience, I know how much stress, anxiety, and discomfort each change brings. I work hard to help my clients go through their life conversions as smoothly and successfully as possible.
โChange is painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you donโt belong.โ
